We are seeking a Pre-K Assistant Teacher:
Passages Charter School serves students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Focused specifically on the needs of immigrant and refugee students. Passages offers a tailored educational program focused on high academic standards and instruction based on students' individual needs.
The Assistant Teacher provides support in the Passages Preschool classrooms, working with the other teaching staff to make sure that all of the children in our program are safe, well-cared for, and able to develop in a nurturing environment. The Assistant helps to make sure that meals and snacks are provided, helps to keep the classroom tidy during and after program hours, works with the Lead Teacher on documentation, and takes part in ongoing professional development.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Help to oversee children in the preschool classrooms. This includes, but is not limited to, time spent in special classes and nap.
Assist teacher in all activities relating to children’s care and educational activities. This includes planning, maintaining the classroom environment, supporting children’s social-emotional needs, and helping children with care routines such as toileting/changing clothes if needed and tooth brushing.
Utilize Creative Curriculum and have knowledge of Teaching Strategies GOLD as well as support the Lead Teacher with Reggio-Inspired documentation.
Help administer developmental screenings with caregivers within 45 days of enrollment and/or as needed
Assist in referrals for special education services.
Provide nutrition support which includes meal/snack preparation and sitting with the children during meals to model healthy habits.
Assist teacher in communicating with parents about issues relating to their children and welcome families at drop off and dismissal.
Help to keep the classroom clean on a daily basis which may include helping clean up tables after meals and art activities, sweeping up sensory table items, organizing toys.
Assist in school-wide programming as needed. This on occasion may mean helping during the 1:45-3:45 time period of After School on early release days.
Support enrollment efforts by participating in recruitment events.
Attend professional development trainings and meetings as required by funding sources.
Uphold confidentiality of and respect for all Passages children and their families.
Maintain the upmost level of professionalism by being present, timely, off the phone, and respectful of many ideas and cultures.
Qualifications (Knowledge, skills & abilities):
Associate’s Degree or minimum of 60 college credit hours, with at least 15 Early Childhood college credits
Experience working with early childhood children in an educational setting
Fluent English and knowledge of another language is desirable
Willingness to participate in further educational opportunities
Experience with COPA and TSG
Must be able to lift up to twenty-five pounds of books and supplies, and also lift small children in our daycare and preschool.
Ability to be culturally sensitive to families/community
Ability to engage with young children in a respectful and nurturing manner
Ability to work with other adults in a professional setting
Ability to approach change with an open mindset.
