Drake University Head Start is seeking a professional candidate for a 9- month full time classroom Teacher in a metro Des Moines location. This individual will ensure the development and implementation of a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum for all children. A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Edcuation with Early Childhood endorsement, Early Childhood Special Education, or Child, Adult and Family Studies with a Child focus are required. Current Iowa Teaching License with Early Childhood or Unified endorsement preferred. A minimum of one year of early childhood experience required. Head Start experience preferred. Current Driver's License and ability to be insured by University's insurance carrier required.
Document and monitor children's progress to evaluate appropriateness of curriculum to meet children's developmental needs.
Conduct instruction by developing and implementing lesson plan while adapting plan to meet individual developmental and learning styles. Promote successful classroom performance for each student.
Encourage the child to develop a positive self-concept and support that self-concept with proper guidance techniques.
Maintain an organized, clean classroom and present concepts to promote learning through child directed activities.
Participate in meal/snack activities by assisting staff with preparing and serving food, eating with the children and cleaning up after meals.
Supervise Food Program at center level to insure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
Create and maintain accurate, confidential reports and records within applicable regulations and performance standards.
Supervise staff in the development and implementation of the curriculum and in maintaining a safe, orderly and quality work environment.
Develop and maintain good communication while respecting confidentiality. Establish rapport and trust with parents, staff, volunteers, and visitors in order to respond to children's needs.
Maintain all files and documentation.
Create a developmentally appropriate environment where children are comfortable enough to verbalize feelings, question, explore, experiment and problem solve.
Provide assistance to children during daily bathroom routine by offering guidance and support when needed.
Continue professional growth by attending classes and workshops, reading new materials and contributing resources to the program.
Ensure the coordination of health issues of child and family with the appropriate staff member. Travel for business purposes to various sites to conduct home visits and conferences with families.
