Royal Palm Academy has an opening for a full-time Resource Teacher & Learning Support Specialist ("Resource Teacher") for the 2021-2022 school year. This is a full-time, permanent, salaried position. At Royal Palm Academy, our Resource Teacher provides direct services to students with specific learning disabilities (SLD) or associated disorders.
Essential skills and qualifications of our Resource Teacher:
Possess an undergraduate degree (post-graduate degree preferred) or equivalent certification in the area of early childhood education, special education, or a program of study with emphasis in ESE or SLD.
Experience working with students with learning disabilities or associated disorders.
Comfortable in providing pull-out instruction for small groups as well as in-class support.
Reliable, flexible, organized, hard-working, patient, excellent communication skills, and outstanding with children.
Provide significant coordination with teachers, parents, educational psychologists, and therapists.
Will write student assistance plans (SAPs) modified to each student's learning needs and maintain regular communication and documentation with teachers and parents regarding student progress.
Provide recommendations to teachers for classroom strategies, accommodations, and alternative methods of assessment to help meet each student's learning needs.
Conduct formal observations of students who are recommended for referral.
Assist in the interpretation and communication of results of formal evaluations, such as neuropsychological, psychoeducational, speech/language, etc.
Assist in the administration of standardized tests for students with learning disabilities.
Assist in screening new students who are applying for enrollment who may require special services.
Assist providing teachers with professional development in the areas of SLD, SAPs, interventions, etc.
Provide staff development in the areas of SLD, SAPs, interventions, etc.
Proficient with technology, including with Microsoft Office and student information systems.
Outstanding and professional written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications and experiences include:
Licensure in Early Childhood Education or Special Education.
Experience coordinating with families, teachers, and paraprofessionals, particularly in writingSAPs and coordinating services for students.
