Ashland University (AU) is announcing the search for the Dean of the Dwight Schar College of Education. This prestigious position is available starting June 1, 2022 or earlier. The College seeks a visionary leader to prepare for the significant changes that are occurring in higher education and teacher education. The Dwight Schar College of Education empowers students to be effective educators so that they will go out into the world and transform the lives of others. The College of Education is a top-ranked teacher preparation program and is nationally accredited through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). It serves as a leader in teacher education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels within the state of Ohio and beyond offering bachelors, masters, doctoral level degrees along with post-baccalaureate, initial teacher license, teacher endorsement, and administrative licenses. The College of Education is housed on the main campus in a beautiful state-of-the-art facility, and also offers programs at regional centers located throughout northern and central Ohio. The College of Education offers focused programs in early childhood education, middle grades education, secondary education, special education, gifted education, literacy, instructional technology, and leadership studies through a variety of delivery modes, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid.
FUNCTION: The Dean is the chief academic leader of the College and reports to the Provost. The Dean fulfills responsibilities identified in the Faculty Rules and Regulations and duties assigned by the Provost. This includes serving as the institutional head of teacher education and as the University's liaison in all matters pertaining to school personnel preparation. The Dean supervises continuous improvement, program evaluation, and assessment systems and ensures the development of marketing and recruitment systems for the College. The Dean will support program development, grant writing, and scholarship. The Dean will foster the University's commitment to character education rooted in our Christian heritage.
DESIREDQUALITIES: The successful candidate will be an energetic and accomplished administrator, with a history of decisive and innovative leadership, who will be a strong advocate for the College within the university and at the local, regional, and national levels. The Dean will advance the College's commitment to community, innovation, and online learning. The successful candidate will have direct Pre-K-12 experience and will strengthen ties with partner schools and their communities. The candidate will be conversant with contemporary issues in higher education and school reform and will be experienced in engaging with external agencies and organizations.
