The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Curriculum and Instruction seeks applicants for two full-time renewable term Instructors of Elementary Education, starting in January 2023. This position supports two programs: (1) One for nontraditional undergraduate students preparing to be teachers, and so includes synchronous distance/online instruction; and (2) our on-campus face-to-face undergraduate program. Teaching content responsibilities may include courses in instructional methods in content areas, literacy, elementary curriculum, and classroom environment and management for K-8 students, including students with mild-moderate disabilities in inclusive classrooms. In addition, this position will be expected to collaborate with their UNI team, assist with the supervision of field-based practicum experiences, and provide service to the department.

The successful candidate must hold a Master's degree in Elementary Education or related field. Required qualifications include at least three years of demonstrated experience in teaching in the K-6 age range; experience in working as a team member; experiences that maximize the strengths of all learners and integrates high leverage and developmentally appropriate practices; use evidence-based practices to support child development and learning, especially for Black, Indigenous, and Youth of Color (BIYOC); experience working with adult learners; commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice through the preparation of preservice teachers; a demonstrated experience and expertise in elementary and inclusive education; and be able to engage in various teaching venues: on-campus classes, in schools, in field placements that provide practica supervision, or synchronously online for courses taught to students at a distance.
Applicants are sought with one or more of the following areas of expertise in Grades K - 8: Early Childhood Education and Special Education, Science/STEM Education; Social Studies Education; Integration of the Arts in Elementary Teaching; Elementary Curriculum; Elementary Classroom Environments and Management; English Language Learners; Early Literacy Development; Content Area Literacy (Reading, Writing, Viewing/Listening, Presenting); Special Education (mild-moderate); and Middle Level.
Preference will be given to candidates with a doctoral degree in Elementary Education or related fields; experience working with adults in instructional coaching or professional development environments; successful experience teaching in a teacher preparation program; and knowledge of INTASC Standards for New Teachers.
