Functions as a Special Education Teacher in Nisonger Centers Early Childhood Program providing special education to children with disabilities within inclusive classroom environments in close collaboration with general education teachers, classroom support team, and therapy staff; serves as a child advocate to ensure social, emotional, physical and educational needs of children are met based on Nisonger Center's philosophy, curriculum policies and state licensing rules.
Actively participates in development and implementation of ECE curriculum; designs and establishes Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) consisting of both academic and therapeutic activities to meet individual needs; develops, integrates and monitors daily and long-term developmental and educational planning in order to meet goals of each child's IEP; adapts lesson plans to support participation of children with IEPs in classroom activities; assesses children's growth and development using the Assessment, Evaluation, and Programming System (AEPS) Curriculum, the Early Learning Assessment (ELA), and other academic and developmental assessment tools; monitors, evaluates and records children's progress toward IEP goals.
Collaborates with school districts to ensure children's educational needs are being met, coordination of home and school programs, and transition of children from ECE program to kindergarten; plans and executes class schedules for daily activities and routines; prepares written summaries based on curriculum and children's daily educational experiences; participates in program evaluation and systematic data collection; implements health, safety and security processes and procedures; mentors and participates in training and evaluating competencies of student teachers; serves as director of record for Ohio Department of Education licensure purposes.
Works varying hours Monday- Friday.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Advanced degree in relevant field may be desirable. active Educator Licensure from Ohio Dept of Education as Early Childhood Intervention Specialist or in Early Childhood Education with supplemental endorsement in Prekindergarten Special Needs required; certification in learning & behavioral disorders preferred. 6 years of relevant experience required. 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred. Experience working with children with developmental disabilities required; current first aid, communicable diseases, & child abuse recognition certifications required or acquired within 120 days of hire; current immunizations required. Requires successful completion of background check; selected candidate will be required to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
