William Penn Charter School is a Quaker, all-gender, pre-K-12 independent, day school in the East Falls neighborhood of Philadelphia. Established in 1689 by William Penn and members of the Religious Society of Friends, Penn Charter is a community guided by Quaker testimonies and the central belief that there is "that of God" in every person. POSITION SUMMARY

In service to the Penn Charter community, the After School Program Supervisor is responsible for creating a safe space for students to decompress, complete HW, and/or socialize appropriately after school. The supervisor needs to embrace our student-centered pedagogy, our Quaker values, and model problem solving in a compassionate and student-first manner. In addition to working closely and communicating with students and families, the After School Program Supervisor works collaboratively with other members of the Middle School Faculty. Additionally, they also demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion both in their service and in building relationships. The After School Program Supervisor serves part-time, Monday through Friday 2:45 pm - 5:30 pm.

Essential Functions

The After School Program Supervisor is responsible for:

• Supervising and ensuring the safety of students at all times during after school program hours
• Exhibiting leadership and ability to adapt to changing schedules and events
• Creating systems that account for each student’s location during program hours including sign-in and sign-out, procedures for using the bathroom, seeing middle school teachers for extra help, playing outside, attending sporting events on campus, and other situations that arise.
• Building rapport and strong relationships with children in the program
• Interacting with students and serving as a model of appropriate behavior to promote positive behaviors
• Providing appropriate positive guidance and redirection to our students
• Engaging with the children in games, activities, and play
• Addressing any challenging or inappropriate behaviors with restorative language, practices and positive behavior supports
• Creating an energetic, caring, inviting, and accepting environment.
• Tracking daily attendance for students who participate in the after-school program or who transition to our after school program from other school activities.
• Managing snacks for students after school including ordering, budgeting, accounting, and sales.
• Occasionally supervising school-aged children during school events that enable our parents and caregivers to fully attend the event. This may include but is not limited to parent conferences, back to school night, parent forums or special events, concerts and performances, etc. These events typically occur during evening hours and include additional pay.
• Ensuring that the classrooms or other school spaces used by the program are returned to their previous condition and all trash, recycling, and articles of clothing are cleaned up and placed in the appropriate receptacles.
• Providing parent communication as needed and in consultation with MS faculty and administration.
• Other duties as assigned

 Physical demands

• Physical capability to: Frequently lift or move weight as in lifting, carrying materials up to 30 lbs. Repetitively bend, stretch and stoop, work with children on the floor, work outdoors in a variety of weather, fully maintain sight and sound supervision of children
• Intermittent time periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions

Required education and experience

• Minimum of one to three years of documented experience in child care or a classroom/education setting 
• Higher education degrees in child development, early childhood education, psychology, education, special education, recreation, or human services (experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
• A love of working with children!

 Preferred education and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in education or related field such as recreation
• Five or more years experience working with youth in recreational and school settings
