The Center for Research on Early Childhood Education (CRECE) was established at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research at the UW-Madison School of Education in November 2017. Unique among education research centers in its whole-child, ecological approach to research, as well as its multi-tiered approach to stakeholder engagement. CRECE's work focuses on children ages 0-8, their families, and communities.
Spanning home and school, preschool and elementary, formal and informal education, policy, and practice, CRECE researchers explore (a) how practitioners can build on the resources children bring to learning; (b) the professional development of the early childhood workforce; (c) early childhood curriculum, teaching and assessment; (d) the education of new researchers; and (e) the development and enactment of research-based policy. The Director or (Co-Director) of CRECE will: (a) collaboratively direct the Center and supervise Center employees; (b) lead and participate in the design and implementation of externally funded research conducted at the Center; (c) secure external funds to support the work of the Center; (d) teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs of the home department; and (d) participate in service to the department, campus, and scholarly community more broadly.
The Director of CRECE will be a productive and internationally recognized researcher with a strong record of securing external funding to support research on one or more contexts in which development and learning occur from birth to age eight, including childcare, preschool, family, and community. This position is housed in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the flagship campus of the University of Wisconsin System.
Principal Duties: -Strategically and collaboratively direct or co-direct the Center for Research on Early Childhood Education (CRECE), an externally funded research center. -Have a nationally recognized research program focused on one or more contexts in which development and learning occur from birth through age 8, including childcare, preschool, family, and/or community. -Build and lead teams of researchers who successfully secure sustaining external funding. -Seek out collaborative medium- and long-term relationships with practitioner and/or policy-making colleagues to carry out high-quality impactful research. -Advise and mentor students through research apprenticeships within CRECE. -Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in early childhood education and other areas of interest or departmental need. -Participate in shared governance and departmental, university, and other service activities. -Contribute professionally to early childhood education at the local, state, national, and international levels.

Required PhD Earned Doctorate degree in field related to early childhood education.
Earned PhD or equivalent in early childhood education or related field. Evidence of an established record of research and scholarship. Experience leading and supervising research teams. Evidence of success in securing significant external funding to support research. Evidence of success in teaching undergraduate and graduate students. Experience working on issues that impact underserved populations and/or on equity issues in early childhood education.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Departmental Information: Depending on expertise and research focus, the successful candidate will join the faculty in one of five departments: the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, the Department of Educational Leadership and Analysis, the Department of Educational Policy Studies, the Department of Educational Psychology, or the Department of Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education. These departments are highly ranked nationally and host undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs, research-oriented graduate programs, and community, state, national, and international educational initiatives.
