The Department of Education in the College of Education and Human Service Professions at UMD occasionally needs instructors to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty. Openings of this kind occur for daytime and/or evening courses, which are taught predominantly on campus, as well as in-person student teaching supervision. These positions are temporary and primarily part-time.
This search will establish a pool of applicants for openings that may occur during May/Summer Session 2024 and the 2024-2025 academic year. Applicants will be selected from the pool on an as needed basis. Applications may not be acknowledged, but will be reviewed when such openings occur. Instructors are appointed on a semester basis, depending on the teaching needs of the Department of Education. Part-time appointments do not carry benefits, and appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.
Responsibilities may include teaching courses in one or more of the following areas: childrenâ™s literature, literacy (early childhood & elementary reading specialist), special education (early childhood, elementary, secondary), elementary education, early childhood education, secondary education, American Sign Language, Academic English Language Program, education administration, graduate programs, human diversity, technology, advising education students, supervising student teacher candidates, serving on committees, and other duties as assigned.
Required/Essential Qualifications:
Required academic qualifications to be eligible for the Instructor position are, 1) a commitment to working with diverse populations and fostering social justice, and 2) a Master's degree from an accredited institution in education or field related to specific teaching assignment.
Required academic qualifications to be eligible for the Assistant Professor position are, 1) a commitment to working with diverse populations and fostering social justice, and 2) a Doctorate from an accredited institution in education or field related to specific teaching assignment.
Responsibilities may include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in one or more of the following areas: early childhood education, elementary education, secondary education, special education, foundations of education, critical disability studies, diversity, technology, American Sign Language, etc.
